CACC Dragon and Lion Dance Club
Our Organization:
The CACC Dragon & Lion Dance Club is under the sponsorship of the Chinese American Community Center, one of the United Wayof Delaware affiliate agencies. The mission of our club is to promote Chinese cultural heritage awareness and enhance friendship in the Chinese-American and surrounding communities through the practice and performance of Dragon and Lion dances.
History:
Our club was formed in 1991. The first CACC lion dance performance served as a part of the activities to demonstrate Chinese Culture at the CACC language class graduation ceremony. Today, the club consists of over 50 members with four lion dance teams and two dragon teams. The Chinese Lion Dance and Dragon Dance originated in China about 2000 and 1000 years ago, respectively. Both dances are performed to celebrate happy occasions like New Year, festivals, weddings, birthdays, grand openings, and other special events. Our club has been called upon to perform at various cultural and activities and special events throughout Delaware and Pennsylvania. If you would like the CACC Dragon and Lion Dance Club to perform at any of your special events, please contact the Chinese American Community Center.
